What is it about?
Each year, the focus switches to a different area of artwork, enabling (ex) inhabitants to demonstrate their creativity: fine arts, music, literature, fashion/design. Renowned artists offer support both during the concept phase as well as at the official presentation in the form of an auction, CD presentation of reading. The social reality of the women’s refuse and why it exists is made clear. New networks emerge both internally and with the outside world and social responsibility towards women and children affected by violence becomes a public issue.
Appreciation of the Jury
‘Everyone is an artist’ enables productive confrontation with contradictions: the contradiction of the women’s refuge institution between guaranteeing the anonymity of inhabitants and their children and generating publicity for the issue of violence towards women. The contradiction experienced by the women affected between seeking protection and the confident demonstration of their creativity. Hidden services are made visible and the women’s refuge becomes transparent, without losing its protective role. Let’s hope the series of art projects continues!
