Asylum seekers often face disregard for human rights and constitutional standards in asylum and related procedures. Asylum law has become politicized, and vulnerable refugees are at risk of being denied justice. The lack of legal clarity on fundamental issues of asylum law hinders the protection of refugees, with laws that may be unconstitutional or harmful to their rights.

Specialized legal representation for asylum seekers, particularly in supreme court proceedings, forms the core of NWAA's mission. Fundamental rulings that clarify important legal questions become the strategic objective, creating benefits beyond individual clients to improve protection for numerous refugees. When necessary, preliminary rulings to the CJEU may be sought to challenge and clarify potentially unconstitutional laws affecting asylum seekers.
Two dedicated employees coordinate activities while eleven specialized project lawyers provide legal expertise. Cases warranting legal challenge come through partner organizations that consult directly with NWAA. Legal representation during asylum procedures falls to the lawyers with financial backing from NWAA resources. Throughout these processes, social counselors and legal advisors collaborate closely with attorneys to maintain continuous support systems for asylum seekers.
Strategic litigation generates favorable case law and overturns unjust decisions, significantly improving refugees' legal standing through NWAA's efforts. Changes in legal frameworks receive flexible responses through collaborative partnerships, extending benefits well beyond individual clients to broader refugee populations. Legal protections for asylum seekers across Austria strengthen as a direct result of these coordinated advocacy initiatives.
Strategic litigation dedicated exclusively to asylum seekers distinguishes NWAA from other legal advocacy projects, addressing a population with minimal representation. Nationwide coverage emerges from an extensive networking model connecting attorneys and partners throughout Austria. Adaptability characterizes this approach, making it transferable to additional legal domains and establishing a potential template for advocacy in other underrepresented fields.
