O čem projekt je?

As part of school or in their free time, students of Erich Fried High School act as guides, mostly for other high school students, through the underground bunker in Arne Karlsson Park. The guided tour takes through reigning National Socialism from 1938 to Vienna’s 1945 liberation. Helped by their history teacher, also director of the district museum, the student guides put together, oversee, and expand the permanent exhibitions. In fifth form, an interested class is introduced to the matter by their teacher and by their seniors still in charge. Before the seniors quit school, the new generation takes over. Like the old, they’ll organise guided tours and other activities autonomously and with dedication.

The district museum Alsergrund and a school in the vicinity, with the help of many others, make a site of remembrance accessible to the public. Students, passing on knowhow from one generation to the next, work at how contemporary history – more concretely Vienna’s liberation from National Socialism – can be conveyed memorably – to themselves, to young and old Vienna inhabitants, to people from countries that liberated Vienna, and to all others. At the same time, they learn how to develop and manage a project together, how to approach people, how to speak in front of an audience, how to work in a team, how to master difficulties. What an innovative mixture of project-oriented pedagogics and a public history class!
