O čem projekt je?
Based on Forum Theatre or, more specifically ‘Legislative Theatre’ by Augusto Boal, so-called stakeholders, namely people affected by poverty from all over Styria, have been picking new poverty out as a central theme and dealing with this topic since 2007 under the professional guidance of InterACT. The spiral of poverty is presented on stage in episodes using a family, the members of the audience reflect directly on the impacts and try out alternative ways of acting. Everything is documented and distributed – including to the Landtag, the Austrian state parliament, particularly the specific socio-political measures to combat poverty which are elaborated. And politicians at municipal and state level are confronted with this again and again – until they amend laws, for example…
Tackling new poverty in role-plays and theatrical performances strengthens the persons involved directly, makes poverty an issue which can be discussed and, at the same time, provides further-reaching impetus at political level to combat and prevent poverty. The ongoing scientific analysis and evaluation guarantees further development and a foundation for argument. This is a successful combination of political-participatory theatre, sound socio-political criticism and targeted measures, which is both complex and specific. May the nationwide expansion of the project in 2010 achieve the same demonstrable results as it has in Styria!
